Dr Debra Kidd

Teacher, Teacher Trainer and Author

Eureka! reminds you that children need to get their hands stuck in, and that together it can be a really lovely experience for families, not just educational but communal.

As a children’s educational charity, we wanted to invite a teacher to be in our #Eureka25. Debra was first choice as she is never backward about coming forward and speaking up for children and teachers, and luckily she said yes!

Debra grew up in Bury (the other side of the Pennines) and trained as a Secondary English and Drama teacher, but has worked with every age group from nursery through to Post Graduate. In 2014 she wrote her first book Teaching: Notes from the Front Line stating, “It is an act of pedagogical activism.” The same year, the ‘pedagogical bandit’ Debra founded Northern Rocks with Emma Hardy MP, a conference for teachers in the North of England. It quickly sold out and is now an annual event which attracts key influencers from education.

Debra’s second book Becoming Mobius was published in 2015 and her most recent, a collaboration with Hywel Roberts – Uncharted Territories: Adventures in Learning is out in January 2018. We’re not sure how she finds the time, seeing as she is always dashing around the globe enthusing teachers and children alike, but luckily we can also count her as part of our team too.
